John William Kelly. December 8, 2005. A resident of Santa Rosa since 1966, John died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Towanda, PA on October 8, 1940, John served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as an electronic technician. He obtained a BA degree in Economics from Sonoma State University and was an active participant in his community, including memberships with Active 20-30 Club of Santa Rosa #50 and Sonoma Travelers.
His greatest joys were spending time with his family, sharing a good meal, a cocktail, and a big belly laugh; his Caesar salad and Bloody Mary recipes were infamous. He also took great pride in his many home improvement projects both here in Santa Rosa and at his beloved lakeside cabin in Wisconsin.
He is survived by Nancy, his devoted wife of 40 years, his daughter Kimberly Kelly of San Francisco, son Patrick Kelly and his wife Debbie of San Francisco, and son Timothy Kelly and his wife Erin of Centennial, CO as well as his first grandchild Josephine Tess Kelly.
He will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend their warmest gratitude to all of his doctors and caregivers over the last 6 months-an amazing group of individuals and professionals who supported both John and his entire family. Donations in John’s memory may be made to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Inurnment will be private. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception celebrating John’s life on Sunday, December 11, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please contact the family for further information.
