James Remy Zuur Sr. passed away in Santa Rosa, August 4, 2004 at the age of 89.

He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years Marjorie Greefkens-Zuur; his children Judie (Al) Reynolds, Jan (David) Gervais, William (Nancy) Zuur, Robert Zuur and James R. Zuur, Jr.; step-children Christine (Robert) Trustman, John and Stephen Greefkens, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia, brothers Jack and Larry Zuur and grandson Kyle Reynolds.

A native of Alameda, CA.  A parishioner of St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Mr. Zuur was a founding member of St. Eugene’s Cathedral and was a member of St. Eugene’s Choir and he was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

His early working life was with the family owned business, The Sonoma Valley Wholesale Grocery Company. He was the owner/operator of Jim’s Village Fountain in Montgomery Village for many years, worked the bottling line at Grace Bros. Brewery, and then on to Reitz Manufacturing in Santa Rosa until retirement in 1981.

His leisure time was given over to the Sonoma County Bonsai Society, the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Barbershop Harmony). He was a lifelong coin collector. He was a driver for Volunteer Wheels for 27 years.

Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Private interment, Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Friends are also invited to attend a Rosary Service at LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL, 4321 Sonoma Hwy., Santa Rosa. on Friday, August 6, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the COLONIAL CHAPEL after 12 noon on Friday, August 6, 2004. If desired, donations in his memory may be made to a hospice or charity of your choice.
