Carlton W. Spridgen, 72, a native of Petaluma, died Monday, January 8, 1979 in Santa Rosa.
Mr. Spridgen graduated from Petaluma High School in 1923 and was valedictorian for his class. He was also student body president at Santa Rosa Junior College in 1924 and was valedictorian of bis graduating class there the following year.
He graduated cum laude in 1927 from the University of Calif oria at Berkeley where he was a member of the Political Science Honor Society and a Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Hastings College of Law in 1930, joining the practice of the firm of Geary and Tauzer.
Mr. Spridgen was a member of the Sonoma County Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Council of Railroad Attorneys, the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, the American Judicatuare Society, and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
He was past chairman and a member of the board of trustees of the Santa Rosa Public library from 1950 to 1965, was past president for the Active 20-30 Club of Santa Rosa #50, past president of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Rosa, past lieutenant governor of Division 8 of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International, past president of the Sonoma County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, past chairman of the Santa Rosa Appeals Review Board, and a retired commander with the U.S. Navy having served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Spridgen of Santa Rosa, his children, Sherry Francatti of Santa Rosa and Sylvia de Benedetti of Saratoga, and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Dr. William A. Spridgen.
